Tri-meet edition, just to make my life harder...
Kent (-15 vs PKS), Parkside @ St. Michaels (-12, -31)
MY TAKE: The Saints are simply too solid for either team to
win outright, but the Trojans have a way of keeping matches close. As
for the Rams, they are tough in the middle, but just not enough to close
out either team.
Kent Island (-36 vs CSD), Cambridge-SD @ Wicomico (no lines)
MY TAKE: Since I won't comment on any matches involving my
own team, I'll stick ot the KI-CSD matchup, which doesn't appear to be
close. CSD will win at 285, but it's tough to see another weight class
they take.
Queen Anne's (+18 vs NC), North Caroline at Snow Hill (+30 vs QA,
+52 vs NC)
MY TAKE: North Caroline is the best of the three
teams, and should beat Snow Hill easily. Queen Anne's has some improving
wrestlers down low, but injuries are literally and figuratively hurting
them now. The Lions should dispatch Snow Hill without too much
excitement. Snow Hill is building in a good direction, but they just
don't have the experience yet to compete across weight classes yet.
Bennett (+27 vs SD), Stephen Decatur AT Col. Richardson (+48, +81)
MY TAKE: The "Please Don't Kill Me Gilligan" line of the
year. Bennett may have some interesting weight class battles against
Decatur, but no one's coming within 35 of the Seahawks this year. The
Colonels may win a couple of weight classes against the Clippers, but
it's hard not to pick against 14 pins from SD against Col. Richardson.
Sorry, Gil, I gotta do it.
North Dorchester, Mardela at Easton (-12 vs ND, +12 vs MAR)
MY TAKE: Mardela is better than both, but don't look for
any blowouts in any of the three matches.
Posted 12/18/07
As always, these numbers are to
be used for strictly entertainment purposes and should not be used as
the basis of any actual cash wager.
A + means the home team is expected to LOSE by that much.
A - means the home team is expected to WIN by that much.
Kent @ Mardela (-15)
MY TAKE: Mardela's
still missing some big pieces like Lester Andrews (135) and Jon Byrd
(285), but that didn't stop the Warriors from a better showing at the
Kent Tournament than the hosts.
ACTUAL: Saw on WBOC.com that
Mardela won by 6.
=============
Parkside @ Kent Island (-36)
MY TAKE: This line
may be a little on the low side, but the Rams have some weight classes
they may do well enough to pick up 6. As I explained on the forum, 36 is
a pretty tough number for teams that aren't from Berlin to cover.
ACTUAL: I didn't give the
Rams nearly enough credit - it was KI by 20 in the end.
=============
Queen Anne's @ Wicomico (NO LINE)
MY TAKE: As always,
no line on matches involving my own team, for obvious reasons.
ACTUAL: Wi-Hi by 25. A
pretty good effort from the Indians, including 1st year starters Del
Young and Andrew Johnson.
=============
Col. Richardson @ North
Dorchester (-21)
MY TAKE: I should
have set this higher - North Dorchester is starting to wrestle like
their coach did, and that's a good thing for the Eagles and a bad thing
for about half the conference. Col. Richardson is
making progress, but just not enough there yet to take ND.
ACTUAL: Wow, a blowout - ND
by 45. Didn't see THAT coming.
Easton @ James M. Bennett (-15)
MY
TAKE: Easton may make this pretty interesting. Both
teams are good down low, with some interesting possible matchups like
Custer-Tull and Albright-Rookard. I probably should have set this at 9.
ACTUAL: JMB by 12. I was
pretty close!
=============
St. Michaels @ Snow Hill
(+36)
MY TAKE: Snow Hill is in for a long night. Brittingham-Gowe
should be a great match, but other than that, I don't see many wins for
Snow Hill.
ACTUAL: The Saints by 70.
Wow.
=============
Stephen Decatur @
Cambridge-SD (+48)
MY TAKE: I know, it
isn't high enough. CSD wins at 285 and that may be it, and I wouldn't be
surprised to see that as a 2 point decision or so. But Gilligan gets mad
when I set the lines too high, so here ya go.
ACTUAL: I might have to
break out the70-point lines again.

From St. Michaels' Head Coach Shawn Smith:
"St. Michaels won the Richard
Montgomery Duals this weekend, defeating Kennedy, Gaithersburg, Richard
Montgomery, Watkins Mill, Seneca Valley, Poolesville, and Paint Branch
(for the first time). Beau Harrison, Stevie Mister, Matt Wiltbank, and
Jordan Gowe all went 7-0. Kevin Gowe, Robert Pyfer, and Chris Fish all
went 6-1. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first tournament St.
Michaels has won in a very long time."
Congrats to the Saints!

Nine teams met in the annual
Cambridge Tournament, rechristened the Andy Perez Memorial Tournament
after the CSD wrestler who lost his life in a vehicular crash this
summer. North Caroline claimed the team championship, with four
champions crowned. The unique format features each wrestler having 8
matches, and the overall standings were determined on wins, head-to-head
results, and other tie-breakers as needed.

The Bayside Conference will be holding its mandatory weight
certification on Nov. 17 in Cambridge. Schools will be assigned times
and notified shortly. The make-up date for certification will be Dec. 1.
Bayside
Conference introduced its mandatory weight certification program two
years ago, and is being considered as the model for a potential
state-wide program by the MPSSAA. Athletes must first pass a hydration
test to show they meet a minimum level of hydration. If the athlete
passes hydration, the athlete is then tested by a scale that measures
body fat percentage. A reading of current weight and body fat and what
the athlete would weigh at 7% body fat (12% is used for females) is then
determined and the nearest weight class at or above that weight (not
lower) shall be the minimum weight class allowed for that athlete.
Should
a coach wish to challenge the electronic reading, a skin caliper test
will be applied to determine the 7% body fat weight and what weight
class is appropriate. Those findings may be appealed only through the
use of a second electronic testing done at the University of Delaware in
its "Bod Pod" water displacement test, done at the athlete's expense. No
further appeal is allowed after that.
Any questions, ask your coach! |
